Anime names are written, not sampled. This generator draws from the real kanji pools behind the japanese name generator and adds the anime craft: character-type registers, meaning-bearing morphemes, receipts on every draw.

What is an anime name generator? A tool that builds character names from real Japanese morphemes and shows what they mean. Is it random syllables? No. Every draw comes from a documented pool with a documented meaning. Is it free? Yes, and nothing is gated.
How do anime character names work?
An anime name is a sentence about the character, compressed into two or three kanji. That is the documented craft: meaning-bearing names as a storytelling device. A protagonist written with 陽 (sun) and 翔 (soar) is telling you the arc before the first episode. A rival written with 駿 (swift horse) and 律 (law) is telling you the temperament. The writer picks the characters the way a poet picks words.
The pools those characters come from are real Japanese given-name morphemes, the same data behind the japanese name generator. The anime layer is the register: which meaning classes lead, heroines, rivals, and villains draw from. How to signal character through naming in general is the subject of the how to name a character guide.

How do female and male anime names differ?
By ending and by meaning class, not by grammar. Both sexes build names from the same kanji system. The difference is which endings and which morpheme families dominate. Female names lean on -ko, -mi, -ka endings and nature imagery. Male names lean on -ta, -to, -ro endings and action morphemes. The register table:

What are anime character last names?
Real Japanese surnames, family name first. Anime surnames come from the same stock as real ones: 田 (rice field), 山 (mountain), 藤 (wisteria), 澤 (marsh). 山田 Yamada reads as mountain + rice field, the most ordinary surname in Japan, which is exactly why writers give it to ordinary boys who turn out not to be. The full-name pill draws surname and given name together, surname first, the Japanese order:

Character-type codes
Four registers, four signals, one system. This is the anime naming craft this generator implements. Writers pick meaning classes by role, and readers feel the signal before they can name it:

Shōnen lead
陽 sun, 翔 soar, 輝 shine, 海 sea

Rival
駿 swift, 秀 excel, 律 law, 岳 peak

Villain
月 moon, 黒 black, 空 void, 澤 marsh

The codes are conventions, not laws. The best-known subversions come from breaking them, a sun-named villain, a snow-named hothead. But you can only break a code you can read, and the receipt under every draw on this page teaches the reading.
The same sound, a different character
One reading, many kanji, many characters. This is the sharpest tool in the anime naming kit: two names that sound identical in speech but mean opposite things on the page. The swap chip on any result above demonstrates the same move:
Homophone kanji sets and what each choice signals

Anime character names vs japanese names
Same morphemes, different job. A real Japanese name balances family, tradition, and sound. An anime name is a writing instrument, chosen to signal a role. The data is shared. The intent differs:

Anime character name generator questions, answered
What is my anime character name?
Pick a register, press Generate, and read the kanji. The receipt shows the characters, the reading, and what each morpheme means. Your character's name is a writing choice, so it should be made with the meaning visible, not assigned blind.
Is the generator accurate to real Japanese naming?
Yes. The kanji pools are real and shared with the japanese name generator, one source, no fork. What this page adds is the anime layer: four character-type registers that select morphemes by meaning class. That selection is the documented anime convention, labeled as such on every receipt.
Can I get female anime character names only?
Yes. Use the gender filter, or pick the Shōjo heroine register. Both narrow the draw to feminine-tagged kanji. The browse side of the cluster, a hundred names with receipts, lives on the anime names page.

Names whose meaning does storytelling work. The craft is documented: writers pick kanji that signal the character's arc before the character speaks. A lead named with sun and soaring morphemes, a villain named with moon and black. The character-type codes table below shows the whole system.
