Werewolf Name Generator
Werewolf names run on moon, fang and Old Norse roots. Fenrir is attested; Lunafang is built on the same feeling. Every draw shows its parts, and the pack names follow their own documented logic.
How does the werewolf name generator work?
Four steps, then a name you can defend. Pick a mode: personal names or pack names. Press Generate. Read the receipt: each chip is one part with its meaning, and tapping a chip swaps only that part. Keep what fits; the shelf holds your shortlist while the moon does its work.
Is this real werewolf naming? The roots that are attested say so. Fenrir, Skoll, Hati and vargr come from Old Norse sources, named on their rows. The compound builds are our own, labeled invented. The full set lives on the werewolf names page.
How do werewolf names work?
Lunafang = luna (moon, Latin) + fang (the tooth that does the work). That pattern is the whole trick. One part points at the sky or the dark: moon, night, shadow. One part points at the body or the deed: fang, claw, howl. The name lives between what changes and what it changes into.
The Old Norse receipts are the deepest layer. Fenrir is the bound wolf of the Eddas, and his name still names menace. Skoll chases the sun and Hati chases the moon, and their names mean mockery and hater: the jobs are the names. Vargr meant wolf and outlaw at once, a legal word for a man outside the law. When your werewolf carries one of these roots, the receipt can say so. The craft lesson lives on the how to name a character page; this is the wolf chapter.
What is a good werewolf name?
A good werewolf name has a sky part and a tooth part. Sky only is a poet. Tooth only is a dog. Here is what werewolf names mean, part by part: ten names, the first six generator builds, the rest documented receipts.

What are female werewolf names?
Female werewolf names take the same moon-and-fang grammar; the documented layer supplies the strongest receipts. The she-wolf is one of the oldest figures in the record:
Female werewolf names with receipts| Name | Built from | Meaning |
|---|
| Asena | attested whole | the Turkic she-wolf mother of a people |
| Luneth | luna (moon) + eth | moon-marked one (invented build) |

| Gerifang | geri (greedy, Odin's wolf) + fang | greedy tooth (root attested) |
How do werewolf names differ across modes?
Personal names mark the individual; pack names mark the bond. A personal name survives leaving the pack. A pack name outlives every member who carried it. The two systems share the word bank and nothing else:
Personal versus pack werewolf names| Attribute | Personal | Pack |
|---|
| Shape | sky root + tooth root (+ title) | modifier + noun + collective |
| Names whom | one changer | the whole group |
| Outlives | the individual | the membership |
| Examples | Lunafang, Vargrim | Blood Moon Kin, Iron Howl Pack |
What are werewolf title conventions?
Titles are earned after the turning. A werewolf title records what the change cost or proved, in the way saga nicknames record deeds. Six from the bank:
Werewolf earned titles with their senses| Title | What it records | Says about the bearer |
|---|
| the Twice-Bitten | survived a second turning | hard to kill |
| Moon-Marked | changed on a significant moon | fated, or watched |
| the Silver-Scarred | met the metal and lived | veteran of hunters |
| Night-Runner | own the dark roads | fast, territorial |
| the Pack-Sworn | kept an oath under the moon | trustworthy |
| Red-Shouldered | seen and remembered | known on sight |
Pack names versus personal names
Two levels, one grammar of belonging. The personal name is private currency: packmates use it, strangers never hear it whole. The pack name is the public banner, and it follows rules older than any single wolf pack in fiction: name the temperament, name the totem, name the bond. Blood Moon Kin does all three in three words.
Human groups have run the same machine for millennia, from clans to crews, which is why the pack-naming logic shares its bones with the clan name generator. The wolf version runs colder and more lunar. When you pick the right name for a pack, say it out loud as a warning: if it works as a warning, it works.
The two werewolf name systems| System | Builds from | Example | Who uses it |
|---|
| Personal | moon/night root + fang root + earned title | Vargrim Moon-Marked | packmates, in private |
| Pack | modifier + noun + collective | Winter Fang Kin | everyone, as a banner |
| Human-name cover | an ordinary human name | Larry Talbot, documented film | daylight, strangers |
Werewolf vs witch names
Neighbors, not rivals. Werewolf names run on moon and fang roots, body and sky. Witch names run on herbs and folk places, craft and boundary. One tradition is a transformation; the other is a practice.
Werewolf names versus witch names| Attribute | Werewolf | Witch |
|---|
| Core morpheme | moon/night + fang | herb + place epithet |
| Title system | earned deed-titles | folk epithets of place |
| Group name | the pack | the coven (a later word) |
| Example | Lunafang the Twice-Bitten | Rowan of the Crossroads |
The witch name generator builds the other tradition, plant receipts included.
The documented wolf receipts
The record is older than the films by a few thousand years. These receipts are the spine under every werewolf name, presented as record:
Documented wolf-name receipts| Name | Source | What the source says |
|---|
| Fenrir | Poetic and Prose Edda | the bound wolf, doom of the gods |
| Skoll and Hati | Poetic Edda | the sun-chaser and the moon-chaser |
| vargr | Old Norse law | wolf and outlaw, one word |
| warg | Old English law codes | the outlaw-wolf, attested in law |
| Lycaon | Ovid, Metamorphoses | the king turned wolf for impiety |
| Bisclavret | Marie de France, 12th century | the werewolf who kept his honor |
| Larry Talbot | The Wolf Man, 1941 | the human-name cover, documented film |
| Thiess of Kaltenbrun | trial record, 1692 | a self-described hound of God, historical record |
Werewolf name generator questions, answered
What is my werewolf name?
The generator answers that directly. Pick a mode, press Generate, and read the receipt. Personal mode builds moon-root and fang-root compounds with earned titles. Pack mode names the group. The receipts name the Old Norse and folk roots where they are attested.
Is the generator accurate to real werewolf naming?
The documented parts are labeled documented. Fenrir, Skoll, Hati and vargr are attested Old Norse; the trial records and the films are cited where used. The invented compounds follow the same grammar and say invented on the tradition line.
Can I get pack names only?
Yes, switch to Pack mode. Every draw is a modifier, a noun and a collective: Iron Howl Pack. The pack rules run on the same logic as clan naming, and the clan name generator builds that bigger machine.
What are good werewolf pack names?
Two words of image, one word of belonging. Blood Moon Kin, Silver Fang Pack, Grey Pine Howl. The modifier names the pack's temperament, the noun names its totem, the collective names the bond. The pack index on the werewolf names page holds thirty examples.
